What is Powerline Communication?

PowerlineCommunication (PLC is method of data distribution over existing power grid. Much like how data can travel through traditional phone lines, data can also transfer through power wires.

On a larger scale, PLC is used to deliver broadband connection to each household. The technology has matured and will become an ISP alternative to cable/DSL companies.

In residences and small offices, powerline communication can be set up into Local Area Networks. The AC current becomes a signal carrier and all the electrical outlets become network access points. This means one can connect to the Internet by simply plugging a powerline device into an outlet.

What is HomePlug?

Homeplug is a Powerline Communication industry alliance consisting of over 50 international companies. The HomePlug alliance developed the HomePlug 1.0.1 standard for powerline devices.

The HomePlug standard has been combined with many household appliances and entertainment systems. Fridge, coffee maker, microwave, can now be remotely controlled via the Internet. Download new recipes. Remind yourself to buy more groceries. Stream high definition video/audio to your TVs and speakers.

Greatlight's PLC ethernet bridge meets HomePlug standard and thereby warrants the quality of connection. The devices are compatible with other HomePlug 1.0 products.
